Speaker out to preamp....is it a no no!

Yeah dude, that'd be bad. What is it exactly you are wanting to do and what type of equipment do you have?
 
Trying to get a decent sound from my 20 year old bass combo, that has no line out.

Any thoughts on the links I provided?
 
You would want to go from the guitar, to the preamp, to your bass amp. I've got an Aguilar DB924 and I love it, adds some nice ass to the bass, I dunno about any other bass pres though. The ones you linked looked kinda cool.
 
There are devices you can buy that are designed to connect to the speaker out, produce no sound, and then send a line level signal to other devices that would be used for sound.

Rockman made a device similar to this some years ago called the PowerSoak. One reference here:

It's fairly easy to build a device like this. I'm sure they are also sold by current vendors as well.

However unless you have such a device, don't connect speaker outs to anything other than speakers.
