If Im recording an acoustic guitar with two mics and sending the signal for eack from my preamp to an a/d converter and then sending the converters output via spdif to the spdif input on my recorder(akai dps16), will I still see two channels. It must be just one, am I right. Are my two seperate guitar tracks added together inside the converter?
Not unless your converter has some kind of internal mixer that sums the two inputs and makes a mono output.
Most every digital format I have seen is capable of carrying at least two channels of audio, or more. Whatever is going to input one on the converter is probably going to the Left SPDIF channel, and whatever is going to input two is probably going to the Right SPDIF channel.
You would define what track you want SPDIF input Left to record to in some function on your recording unit. Same with SPDIF input Right.
I am sure that your manual gives plenty of details on how to route the two SPDIF inputs to any recording track. You just have to sit down like the rest of us and read it....
