After upgrading to Cubase SX and a Delta soundcard, I'm eager to try out the Cubase VST link that allows you to sync 2 or more computers together via an SPDIF cable. Any suggestions on an appropriate sound card for the second machine?

The requirements are as follows:
Must support ASIO drivers
Must have SPDIF digital in/out (nothing else necessary)
Must run under Win2K (I think everything does these days)

I would like to use the second machine for plugins. If I choose a card with MIDI, I'll probably wind up using it for a soft syth also. I havent rules out USB either. Does anyone know of something like a digital only USB interface?

If you want to be a total cheapskate, get a soundcard based on the Cmedia CMI 8738 chipset eg Zoltrix Nightingale Pro or Leadtek Winfast 6X. They cost around$40 (or less) and are the same chipset as the old M-Audio Delta DIO 24/48 and you can use the DIO drivers under Win2K for Asio etc. They are limited to 24 bit recording with a max sampling rate of 48khz. These cards also come with joystick/midi ports that can be used for midi i/o with the appropriate cables.

Otherwise a Delta DIO 24/96 should satisfy your needs.

Id say a Delta Dio....

the 2448 usually goes for $89 nad hte 2496 for $119.......

The DIO seems like it'll do the trick, I'm inclined to stick with Delta as I've had a good experience with them so far. I wonder how many of these things I can link together....

Something else dawned on me just now. If I need to run SX on all of the computers involved, do I need to purchase a copy for every machine? Maybe Steinberg offers a special price for this sort of thing.
