Ok, let me first off say that im newbie here. i have a Fostex FD-4 digital recorder. Anywho, i have recorded one of my bands songs on there and use some studio headphones when i play it back. I got it to sound just like i wanted it to on the headphones and i hooked the recorder up to the back of the soundcard on my computer and used soundforge to record it and i burnt it on a cd.

We then listened to it in my brothers car with a good system and it just sounded horrible. First off, i dont want to use my computer for this crap, are there external cd burners you can hook up to recorders so you can burn straight from it? How much do these cost?

Also is it necessary to use moniters instead of headphones when your adjusting every track or can you get away with headphones?
See my band needs to record all our songs on cd so we have something tangible. So basically my question is, Can i get it to sound the same on the cd as it sounds on my headphones? thanks.

I'll bet it will sound identical if you listen to your CD on the same headphones you used to do the final mix.

Headphones almost always have a better stereo image than speakers and thus may give you give a false idea of how things really sound. My guess is your mix sounded nice and full on phones and once you burned and played it in the car the sound kind of swindled away and seemed empty? Try re-mixing without the headphones...chances are that the sounds in the mix that most need to be adjusted will be much more clear.
