SoundModule & Keyboard+Midi Recording

Hi guys... u would really appreciate if anyone helps.
I have a midi controller (keyboard), I have a Sound Module (Roland SonicCell) also as a VST plugin installed. And I have an Audio/Midi Interface (TASCAM US-122L), and recording software (Cubase).
My Problem:
I can't get how I use the sound module sounds in the Cubase as an Instrument/Midi track. I want to be able to edit correct the midi info recorded via keybard that uses the Sound module sounds, and finally also monitor them via Audio/Midi Interface where my moniors are connected.
What I've tried:
The Sound module can be connected as a USB-Midi, there is a VST plugin... if i connect it that way to the PC, Keyboard to the Midi Interface IN, in Cubase add an Instrument Track and select RolandSonicCell_VST as an instrument, set the Track Input to TASCAM Interface, Track Output to SonicCell. When I launch the VTS plugin of that track, in its menu "Setup Midi Devices" the Midi Input/Output is set to Roland SonicCell(itself).

So, with this setup I start recording, then some data is being recorded, which I can monitor only on Sound Module (via Headphones). So it was my last experiment trying to solve it. Pleace anybody, if any idea of solving this problem: Physical Connection Setup and the Setup in the Cubase, or VST plugin...

Plug the output of the Sonic Cell into the line inputs of the Tascam. That should allow monitoring off the Tascam.

I don't use Cubase so not sure about MIDI/VST arrangements.

Your question really isn't very clear. Are you able to record MIDI input with your current setup or not? Or is it just the monitoring issue that you are trying to resolve now?

The input to the Sonic Cell should be the MIDI data from the keyboard.

You can edit the midi track in Cubase - you don't need to involve Sonic Cell. Just double click the purple track.

I just want to be able to record/edit the Sonic Cell sounds as MIDI, so, to have an Instrument or MIDI Track, not an Audio. Im also bit confused cause there's also VST Plugin Sonic Cell Editor, which has its input/output options, and available in Cubase as VST .
I was using the sonic cell before via Audio Outputs to Audio Interface, so: Keyboard->SonicCell (via Midi) -> Sound Module->Audio Interface (via Audio L/R)... so i was recording audio data. And the audio data ofcourse can't be edited as its with midi (ex: corrections of tempo, complete sound modifications etc... ).
Thus, I need help concerning the connection setup and/or the setup in DAW software (in my case Cubase LE), to use Sonic Cell's instrument on Midi/Instrument tracks.

Okay. What you do is run MIDI out from the keyboard into the Tascam MIDI in, and from there it goes to your DAW.

Run the MIDI output from the Tascam into the MIDI in on the SoundCell. Run the audio outs from the SC to your monitors. Be sure and echo MIDI thru so the MIDI will continue on to the Tascam and then to the SC.

Set up a MIDI track and record your take. You should be able to hear the SoundCell in real time while recording. Now you have a MIDI track you can edit. When you are satisfied with the track, patch the audio output from the SC into the Tascam line inputs, create a new audio track, arm the track and hit record. The MIDI track should then play back through the SC and record the audio onto the new track.

To monitor the audio during this phase you would need to patch the output of the Tascam through your monitors or use headphones.

All that re-patching is what makes mixers and patch bays so handy.

You could also record both audio and MIDI at the same time, just by setting up an audio track and a MIDI track and echoing thru the MIDI signal, if you have enough MIDI and audio patch cables.

Select the tascam MIDI input as the source for the MIDI track, and the Tascam MIDI out as the destination. Make sure that Cubase and the SoundCell are set to the same MIDI channel. Then select the audio input from the Tascam as the source for the audio track. Select the Tascam line out as the destination (or Master buss) and patch the audio outs from the Tascam to your monitors.

But my problems also, I want to be able to monitor all the mix (vocals, guitars... other tracks), the instruments that run thru tascam.

Be sure and echo audio thru so the MIDI will continue on to the Tascam and then to the SC.

what do u mean by ...echo audio thru, should the 'midi thru' set somewhere, at some point or what did u mean?

Yeah, that should have been echo MIDI thru for the new MIDI track.

Assign the other tracks to the master output and you should be able to monitor them through the Tascam.
