ive been using a tascan us 122 with my desktop to record for the past year without any problems. i decided to go portable a few months back and got a laptop. only problem is that the signal keeps skipping when im listening back to waht ive recorded. i called the shop i purchase my equipment from to ask them what the problem was, and they told me that the laptop doesnt get along with the tascam, and that i needed to find an interface which was more compatible. any ideas how i go about doing this? or if this is even the problem.

cheers

Hey man. Do me a favour wud ya? Would you check your desktop ram vs yur laptop ram? The first thing to do would be to find out whether the sound stutters whilst tracking or while playing back.

the desktop is oly 256, the laptop is 1024. how do you alter the soundshutters?
cheers

haha, sorry mate i misread you. the sound stutters whilst tracking also.

also, the guy at the shop mentioned something about a firewire. might seem like a ridiculous question, but what does this do? i dont think i have a firewall. could this be my problem?

firewire and firewall are completely different...firewall prevents random internet applications accessing your PC by closing down certain TCP ports. Firewire has a similar purpose to USB, though its a different way of transferring infromation. It could be down to processing power; I know my laptop processor cant hold a candle to my desktop. Heres a few things you might try though

Uninstall the US 122
Reinstall the US 122
Go to the Tascam website for firmware downloads
Disconnect any unnecessary USB devices
Close your internet connection
Scan for adaware
Scan for viruses, then disable anti-virus.
Terminate any unnecessary applications
