Soundfonts

I'm trying to get a more realistic bass line and was told that soundfonts might be the ticket.

I collected some soundfonts off the net and now I'm trying to put them to use.

Opened [options] then in the SoundFont Banks, loaded a bunch of my "blank" banks with the soundfonts but,...now what. How do I put them to use?

In your MIDI track, select Bank -- you'll see the loaded Sound Font or Fonts in a contect menu.

Choose the desired bank.

Then, under patch, select the desired patch.

The method described by AlChuck will work provided you have an audiocard with built-in sound chip (such as the Creative range of cards).

If your audiocard doesn't have a sound chip, you will need a software synthesiser to provide the sounds from the SoundFont.

I can't begin to tell anyone, who'd listen anyway, how many times I've tried to do that. Midi is really hard for me, and a few others, to grasp.
I'm gonna have to try this.

CakeWalk's HomeStudio & Sonar both have a soft synth bundled with them. It's called Edirol Virtual Sound Canvas and can be inserted as a DXi.

The MIDI sounds generated by VSC are not particularly spectacular, but they are a great deal better than total silence!

You must also assign each of your MIDI tracks to a Chan.
