Is it possible to use Soundfonts without a Soundblaster card?
I use Sonar Producer 4 with a Toneport UX1. Whilst the PC (laptop) is pretty beefy (2 gig of ram 20" screen ect) it has the usual naffy audio card (realtec or something)

Alan.

Yes, there are a couple of software synthesizers that will use sound fonts.

Native Instruments Kompakt will use sound fonts, as will Live Synth Pro (although I think that one may be out of production). I'm sure there are others as well.

Here's a free one I found via a google search. It is VST based, but I believe Sonar 4 comes with a VST adapter.

Yup. SFZ is great and is free. However you will only be able to load up one soundfont in each instance of the vsti. (so you'll need SFZ on every track for each instrument.)

Another good one (but $50) is Bismark's BS-16. It will allow you to load up 16 soundfonts at once, one on each midi channel for each instance of the vsti.
