something went wrong... here's my post

I have here a Soundblaster Live! and Cakewalk Express 6.0 Gold. I have been experimenting with Soundfonts. I have no problems getting them to load up when I use the Creative Labs AudioHQ software that came with the soundcard, I just load up the .SF2 file and if I use the Creative Virtual Keyboard, I can access the new sounds, assign soundfonts to different banks, etc. Yay.

Problem is, I can't seem to access the Soundfonts through Cakewalk. There's the Soundfont menu item under File, and I seem to attach a soundfont to a bank, but I can't find any way to access it from a song. MEssing around with various instrument dialog box settings last night totally messed up my sound (ie - there no longer was any) and I only just got it sorted out this morning. The help isn't helping me out much. Any Cakewalk users able to sort me out?

If the Sound Font has been attached, it should show up in the Track Properties window under Bank. Once you select the Bank, the patch list should contain the patches of that Sound Font. If it seems to not change the sound, try one of the other bank select methods. Hope this helps...

that doesn't seem to work - I attach a soundfont to bank 1 (bank 0 has the general midi) and when I go to a track's properties, the bank pulldown has no options - just '--'. I can't find another way to select banks, either. the Bank Select Method pulldown has 4 options - the default is 'normal' but there's also 'Controller 0', 'Controller 32' and Patch 100'. I've no idea what these mean, but changing them does nothing.
Could the Instruments submenu be part of the solution? there seem to be numerous menus associated with that which I have no idea what they do.

In the track menu, under the device pull down, you must select the soundfont device of your sblive. The select method pull down must be set to controller 0.

hope this help. I have a sblive too.

Alright! It finally seems to work! it was a problem with the specific MIDI output ports I had selected... I have to muck around with setting the three synth outputs to soundfont devices, then play with the channels and banks... I'll sort out exactly what it is I'm doing eventually, but I'm glad it actually works. Thanks for your help, all.
