okay... here is my situation. there is a soundcraft 6000 for sale near me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3756839929#ebayphotohosting its for sale on ebay but i have made on offer on it. he is willing to sell it to me off ebay. i made an offer of 4000.00. he accepted, but i havent comitted to it. is this a good deal. the board is said to be in great condition, it was used sunday morning in a church its whole life. my only concern is size. the board is 7ft long and 3ft wide. i was thinking about getting a used midas venice 320 (much smaller)... they would both be about the same price, the midas would be 1 or 2 hundred more. what do you guys think? is this a good deal? please help. i need to know by tomorrow at lunch!!

The Soundcraft 6000 is a great board. It will knock the pants off of a Ghost and has much more advanced routing capabilities. Most likely it also has a patchbay. There are different versions of the 6000. Is it one of the 24 bus ones? also, how many channels does it have? One thing to watch for, pay close attention to the pots and switches. Since the SC 6000 is no longer in production, some of the parts may be getting harder to find, although I suspect that Soundcraft still has a nice stash. On an older board, there will most likely be some pots and faders to be cleaned, and depending on how old it is (even if it just sat there brand new in a crate never used) it may be due for some recapping soon. The Soundcraft studio consoles (6000, 3200, TS12, TS24 etc...) also seems to go through switches pretty quickly. The good news is that switches aren't too expensive and are fairly easy to change. All in all though, as long as it is at least a 32 channel by 24 bus, $4000 is a pretty fair price for one. Not great, but certainly not bad. Especially if it is in good condition. The SC6000, in my opinion, has a nice "aggressive" sound to it, with a pretty fat low end on the EQ, but can get a little brittle on the top end.
