I love toxic waste
The possibility exists that I might just aquire a Souncraft Delta DLX 16 channel console for my studio. Currently I run the Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro. If I get the Soundcraft, which would be the better preamp to use for my mics, The Soundcraft's or the Mackie's VLZ's??

There may be *some* difference between the two of them.... but I honestly doubt it's that great a difference that it would matter a whole lot....

YMMV......

Most who have used both pre's have noted a smoother overall sound to the Soundcraft preamp, with less "hyped" upper mids. The Mackie pre's are usuable for certain things, mainly, instruments that need a bit of "thinning" out to the sound. But overall, you will probably find that tracks recorded with the Soundcraft pre's will be easier to deal with at mix time.

Good luck.

That's what I figured. Just wanted to be sure though. If everything goes like I want it to, I will soon be able to find out for myself!! Thanks!

I use a Soundcraft Ghost and I am very happy with the performance. The preamps aren't bad (certainly not a Neve) but EQ section is where the board really kicks butt. This might be stating the obvious but you will still need to use good (a relative term) external pres (IMO) no matter which way you go.
