Suck 'em and see!
I've been using an allen & heath Saber 24/16/16/2 for the past 2 years. Had great use from the desk but it's old (1987) and getting noisy and more and more things are going wrong. I just sold it on eBay (listing all faults ofcourse). Would this board be a significant step back?

I'd apreciate any comments from anyone who's used one, even if you can't compare to the A&H. Also...what do you think is a fair price for a used one (7 years old)

Thanks in advance,

Alec

I'm certain it would be a noticable step back! I love Soundcraft layout and format, but these aren't the hottest. They also run at -10dB, which is a big problem for you. There is a mod to change it to +4, but I don't know what it is. :)

hey thanks for the quick reply mate. Just now I have a buyer I need to find something else quick, not a lot on ebay this week or the SOS site. Was trying to hang off for a Soundtracs Topaz project 8, heard lots of good stuff about them, there's a tascam m2600 on offer, not sure if i wanna digress that much.... not sure where else to go. Ideal desk would be the A & H GS300 but you can't get them for love nor money these days. I've considered older soundtracs consoles but with one UK service centre 500 miles south it's not really on. I refuse point blank to use any Behringer crap, Mackie are way overpriced for their reliability and headroom factor......

rock n a hard place again...
someone help please

I could bounce the Delta 1010s down to -10 but I really don't wanna go down that road.

Seen a really good lookin sony MCI JH636 but it's way too big and age prolly makes it a service nightmare..

Here's my shortlist (excluding a Soundcraft Ghost...they hold price way too well)

I've used the Spirit Studio 24:8:2 ... I was looking at that M2600 on Ebay the other day myself, but I seriously don't need it!!!

How long is this a stop-gap for? A Yamaha MG desk would be fine for now and they sell pretty well on Ebay ... Soundcraft LX7 is another to consider but I guess you want proper inline monitoring in your next permanent desk?

My next mixer will be the Malcolm Toft one - it's essentially the preamps from the Toft ATC-2, with the EQ from the old Trident 80B desks ... tonnes of inputs, Malcolm talked me through his scale drawing of it and it looks very cool. NOT a large format mixer though, but they are talking about a meterbridge and side cars for extra channels. 16 as standard ... going to be about £1500!!!

Sadly the PMI forum is offline at the minute, but there is more info on there. It looks like a winner if it fits your requirements ...
