Soundcraft, Sound Card, 2480 Questions

Hello,

I'm a novice at this stuff, and I have two questions...

I have an audio setup here at home that I use primarily for audio restoration,
which involves lots of old vinyl & cassette tapes.

Technics Turntables w/ Shure magnetic carts
Sony Dual Cassette Deck
Tascam 302 Dual Cassette Deck
Dual CPU computer with sound card (SB Live; will be replacing this very soon)
Roland 2480HD with external CD burner
Peavey Amp
Roland RSM-90 Studio Monitors (not the digital ones)

I originally had a GLI PMX-9000 DJ mixer for the turntables, but recently it bit the dust after 18 years of use. In looking for a replacement, I came across a Soundcraft Compact 10 unit, and it's exactly what I've been looking for.
I don't want another DJ mixer, because I haven't done DJing work in years.

Does anyone have any experience with this Soundcraft mixer?

I would either be running it into my 2480, or the computer's sound card.
Which leads to my next question...

Which is better...

A. Running the Soundcraft directly into the 2480, and then sending the signal to the computer for restoration (restoration software), then back to the 2480 for burning, OR...

B. Running the Soundcraft into the computer, doing the restoration work, and then into the 2480 for burning?

From a sound standpoint, is there much of a difference between the two methods? Obviously, my setup isn't the best, (except for the 2480) so I need all the help I can get.

once you have it in the computer, why don't you just burn it from there?

Good question Farview. That thought has crossed my mind more than once.

My original question was based on the assumption that the 2480; and the Roland burner attached to it, would do a better job burning the CD. Or am I wrong about that?

If it burns, it burns. The 2480 uses the same type of drive that you would find in your computer, there is nothing special about it. You will probably do more harm just transfering the data. (if your going analog)
