So Ive been looking at purchasing a soundcraft ghost 32 by 8 mixer. What I need to know is can I hook up my computer to it? Do I need an interface? What exactly do I need to use it?

I have one. There are many reasons why you would hook it to a computer, some of them you need an interface, some you don't. What do you have now and what are you trying to acomplish?

If you want to run the mute groups of the board with your computer, you will need a midi interface or smpte timecode from something.
If you want to record on your computer, you will need an interface with a lot of line level ins and outs. I'm using the MOTU 24 I/O

I have a motu 896 but am un happy with the result i am getting. I want better preamps. I am using nuendo 2.0.

The Ghost is a nice board but do you really "need" it? Perhaps all you need is a higher end stand alone preamp..

I have never used MOTU preamps, but a 32 channel board is overkill if you only need 8 inputs. If you were to get the board, you should get at least 16 channels of I/O and use the board in split mode. 16 channels of inputs and monitor on the other 16 channels. You will also be able to mix down through the board, which will give you a different sound than mixing in the box.metaljoseph said:
