Has anyone tried the soundcraft EPM 6/8/12? I decided to buy a decent mixer and came up with the EPM6 for my home studio.
i am recording myself playing and singing so channels r not that much of a problem.Need though some good quality preamps.
Is there any major difference between M4 and EPM6 for my kind of needs? lemme hear some opinions cause its a noticable price difference between them.

Have not used either, but there's lots of reviews over at GS. The Soundcraft preamps are very highly regarded "budget" pres. The M4 is more of a boutique type modular pre that you'll pay dearly for. I'm guessing that for what you've described, the soundcraft would work nicely, and you'd be happy.
Other opinions from anyone who's used them here?

Well I can't comment on the EPM but I can on the M4 since I have one.
I think I paid around $550 for my M4. What I like about it:

Very nice preamps, quiet.
Great EQ
4 Stereo Sends and Returns
Direct outs (pre or post fade)
S/PDIFDigital output

I have nothing negative to say about it.

Wow M4 for $550. They're over 2 grand new. That's almost like stealing.

I am running an epm 8 and it really is a great piece of hardware for its price! I would highly recommend it if you running on a budget. It doesn't have any direct outs, but I use the insert connections to connect to my soundcard.

Great preamps for a mixer in this range (it uses the same preamps as some of soundcrafts way more expensive desks).

If you have a bit more to spend, I would go for the Spririt M series.

Its a great little desk.

Where, or what is "GS"?

I'm an emp8 owner. I think epm6/8/12 is a bit better than the other mixers in it's price range. It's pretty basic, and doesn't have many crazy routing options, groups, ect. It doesn't even have a power switch. Not that all that stuff is a bad thing. Look at it this way, it is a cheap mixer, with less cheap components to break.

I think the M-series may be a bit better, and more expensive. Then again, it has more routing options and a digital output.

stupid question here. on the brochures and website for soundcraft's epm series it says the mixers have one return. i can see the aux sends/outs but i'm unable to find the returns....any help? thanks!:)

Great mixer and good features the epm 6. Mine has gone a bit rusty in the connections as I play a lot of outdoor gigs.

I recently brought the Mackie VLZ 802 and am well pleased with that.

It has a great overall punchy crystal clear sound.

The the XDR mic pre's are really nice and clean with loads of headroom.

I hear the Peavy compact USB mixers are also good for there price , I read in a music mag that the new Peavy USB 6 and 8 now have built in effects. I think they are coming out soon.

I have the M12S, which is the 20-channel version with a mix-buss S/PDIF out. I use it for remotes when I need more preamps. I really like it...very clean preamps, nice EQ, good routing. I recommend it.
