The main question I want to ask is if anyone has tried any of the Soundcraft E-series stuff and liked it. How do they compare to similarly priced stuff(Mackie VLZ, Yamaha MG)?

I'm mainly looking at pre-amp qaulity. Just need something small, cheap, and decent to go where my 24 channel can't.

VLZ's are pretty good for it's price. I never listened to any of the Soundcraft stuff but i heard that they're quite good. and Yamaha MG's are somewhat like the mackie VLZ's but i personally think that the Mackie's are better in this department.

cool, that helps a bit. Have to say, I'm leaning towards soundcraft. Can enyone esle get their 2 cents in about the soundcraft E-series?

I owned a Yamaha MG mixer & I found the pres were OK until you crank them and then they got harsh & brittle

One of the bands I do live work for replaced their live mixer a little over a year ago. They were using a Soundcraft E8. They replaced the perfectly functioning E8 with a Mackie 1604VLZPro because they wanted more I/O flexibility more than anything else. I have to be honest that even in a live application it was striking want a difference in sound quality upgrading to the Mackie made, I mean the increase in sound quality was quite noticable, even among regular fans who were not technically or acoustically minded (I got a lot of questions from the audience asking why the band suddenly sounded better.)
