What preamps could be compared with those on the Soundcraft 6000 desks?

Until now, we've been using the SC's pres for vocals, which have a slightly 'grainy' quality to them, if I'm hearing things right. I haven't played with preamps enough to have any proper idea, so it's a tough call knowing what a suitable step up would be. I know our singer prefers a clean bright modern sound to his vox (he also favours reverb).

He was looking at the Focusrite Voicemaster Pro, but favourable reviews are scarce on that one. I've suggested he looks into the DAV BG1 (supposedly very clean).

It's pretty murky out there....

I would actually consider a Voicemaster Pro a step backwards from a SC 6000. The 6000 is actually a pretty cool little rock board. As you have noticed though, it does get a little grainy in the 4 to 8k region though. The EQ is pretty cool on the 6000's though. Based on your description though, I would seriously look into the Great River preamps. If you don't get the gian stage too high on the master gain you will get a wonderful bright modern sound out of it. Depending on the mic you are using, an API would also give a fair amount of that type of sound. If the DAV is as clean as everyone says, it seems like it would not be my go to at all for what you just described, but would be more useful for other areas.

Thanks xtat, that could really be of some help. I'll pass these suggestions onto the singer. Appreciated.
