Anyone know if I can use this desk for 24 track recording/playing?
I know it is possible with 8 track but what about if I used the inserts as direct outs or used a patch bay or something? I really love the look of this desk and can buy one reasonably cheap. I wouldn't mind if I could record 8 tracks at a time as long as I have all 24 on playback. For anyone who has time there is a manual here http://www.soundcraft.com/download....des/series_400b/series400b_user_guide_1-3.pdf
THANKS in advance!!

Yes you can, in short. If you have a 24 channel one, you could certainly do 24 channels of playback. You could use the busses to record off of, and then do the insert as a direct out when you need more than 8 simultaneous tracking channels.

Tab A into Slot B

The main drawback to using the inserts as direct outs is that the only thing on the channel strip that will work before the signal goes out the insert is the trim control. No aux, no EQ no fader, etc. As such, really the only thing you're using that strip for is for the preamp and the trim control.

If that's basically all you need or are looking for, then knock yourself out. :) But if you are expecting to be able to mix and process with anything more than the trim control, you'll be out o' luck.

G.
