What the hell? I uploaded the same exact WAV file to both sites, and the SC version sounds relatively fine, whereas the BC version sounds like ass on a stick.

Check out the difference. It's most noticeable at the very beginning anyway, so you only need to listen for 5 seconds or so to hear it. The song is "Freedom of Youth."

Sun City

This was the same file, and I tried numerous times on BC to make sure it wasn't some fluke.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thanks

What bit rate/file res are you uploading? I'm curious...never used BC, but I'm interested for the sake of the comparison

I've always found BandCamp to be rubbish. I don't know how they compress the files over there but they make music sound worse than myspace used to.

I can't explain or say I have the same issue as I don't use BandCamp unless I'm given a link to listen to.

Good song though BTW ;)

Yeah I don't know what they're doing either ... but damn! It's not right!

Thanks! :)

That's too bad because I think Bandcamp has a nicer page layout. Will keep this in mind if I decide to start posting some of my stuff up online.

I don't know what they do for the streaming audio, but Bandcamp's download options seem to be superior to similar services. I have noticed a bit of a high roll off and some other weirdness with the streaming audio. If the streaming is too good people won't buy stuff. I haven't used Soundcloud lately because the audio quality was so bad.

Wow; that's exactly the opposite experience that I'm having right now. SC sounds negligible, regarding the conversion, and BC just sounds awful.

I know what you mean about "if it sounds too good, people won't buy it," but what if it sounds too bad?

As I said, I haven't listened to Soundcloud in a while, months. I haven't listened to Bandcamp in a week or so, so maybe something changed. They did just start promoting "Bandcamp for fans". Maybe they had to budget their bandwidth.
