I have spent the last year and a bit learning all my software (Sonar, Reason, Waves plugins etc), and have been running limited outboard gear (well, okay, basically none, a Behringer 602A mixer). I have a Audiophile 2496 card, which is pretty good, but the ins/outs are the problem, I need more.
Main questions:
Can I use the 2496 card AND a Delta 410? (then I would have 6 ins, plus S/PDIF in, and MIDI connections) Will BOTH of these cards work together at the same time?
How about a 2496 plus the Delta 66?
Or, better off going to the 1010 or 1010LT?
Ideally I would like to keep using the 2496 if it will work at the same time as another card, and then I don't have to get as big a new soundcard (don't want to lose my investment in the 2496 if possible)
Does anyone use the Omni i/o in conjunction with any of these cards? What are the routing possibilities?
When two Midiman cards are in teh same machine, do they share the Monitor Mixer panel? Or do they have separate Monitor mixer panels?
The next obvious step is getting a better mixer (maybe..... if I got the 66 plus Omni i/o, I might not need it, could just use the 602A to monitor the output signals from Sonar and my ins).
Long post here, sorry.
Here is what I see as the main choices:
1) Delta 66 or 410 plus Omni i/o plus DMP3 preamps, and keep using the 602A simply for monitoring. Problem I see here is no MIDI in/out, but that could be covered by teh 2496 if they work together. The omni i/o would cover my need for a new mixer, as the only reasons I need a new one are for inserts for compressors
2) Delta 1010LT plus the DMP-3, keep using the 602A just for monitoring, sell the 2496 card on Ebay.
3) Delta 1010 plus DMP-3 , keep the 2496 for MIDI in/out and S/PDIF in/out (I need the S/PDIF)
With options 2 and 3, I will need a new mixer, however, to be able to route input signals through an outboard compressor (not yet in my collection, but a definite need and near-future purchase)
I think the 66 would cover most of my needs as I don't record live drums, and if I did, I could just rough-track them the first time through my mixer into a stereo pair and then re-record them later.
