Does a soundcard have to be full duplex to inport a .wav file, edit it and export it to a CD burner (internal or externa)?

The deal is, I've got a pc with one of those "everything is a chip integrated onto the motherboard" motherboards. Bottom line, the soundcard is a chip that supposedly does full duplex but its DARNED difficult to get the thing to do it. I failed MISERABLY when I tried to use a phone program.

Also, I only have one PCI expansion slot and one only of the others (ISA, right?).

SOOooooo, I want to buy a VF 16 (Fostex) and edit and burn off of the PC (before you ask, I've weighed all the options and for what I'll be doing recording wise, I need a portable unit!). So what would I need to do to make the PC work for this?

And of course, I am NOT going to pay a lot for this Muffler!

Full duplex just means that you can record through the card's hardware at the same time as it is playing back already-recorded audio.

i'm not positive... but i think you'll still be able to do it though... you'll play it in and record it once... then unplug the cables and only playback (and edit or whatever)... then plug and send the stuff out... i'm pretty sure i basically did that on my old comp with a non full-duplex soundcard
