Whats everyones favorite soundcards for recording multitrack? I would like to have maybe 8 inputs on my soundcard... Basically, whats the best value I can get for a soundcard. Best sound quality at the lowest price. 4 or 8 or 10 tracks at once or whatever, personal opinions... so i can compare and contrast. thanks!

with those kinda demands the pricecard can go from 250 to 800 dollars ..

check out the m-audio delta series 44 , 66 (+omi/IO)1010 +-600$
and the m-audio delta 1010lt +-270$ but you need a mixer for those 6extra channels that dont have a mic pre
something like a yamaha mg10 ...
motu 828 +-800$
aardvark q10+-800$
etc..

if you want my opinion go for the 1010 lt it has 2 xlr in with pre's and itll cost you +-270$ later on when you need more IO's go buy an extra mixer to use those other 6 RCA in's ... that will give you 8 signals ...

but thats jsut my personal opinion

for value, yeah the 1010lt.....this week it is $224 shipped at www.digitalproaudio.com ........

if you need 8 channels pre-amped, you can get 3 Delta DMP3's at $119 each......

that would be 8 preamped channels for less than $600.......

Phantom Power?

Do the M-Audio cards with the preamps provide phantom power?

am i missing something

is the only difference between the 10/10 ad the 10/10lt that one has that rack mountable and one doesnt? the 10/10 doesnt have any pre-amps on it, does it? im such a newbie. but i really would appreciate the help.

the 1010lt preamps dont have phantom power.......

the main differences between the 1010lt is its inputs are on unbalanced RCA's without the breakout box (1010 has balanced RCA's on breakout box)......

1010lt has midi and 2 preamps, 1010 doesnt.....

the 1010 has slightly better converters than the 1010lt........

Okay

so what i really want to know is, if i had an external mixer with line outs(for pre's) that im going to be plugging into the soundcard... which is a better value.

1010 lt

are the inputs with no pre quarter inch, or 8th? i cant tell what they are from the pic.

6 RCA 's I think ...
2 XLR's with pre

if you want to connect a condensor mic to that you WILL need a preamp with phantom power I presume ....

but take one step at a time
invest wise
buy a GOOD consensor later instead of setting for a 100 dollar behringer or somehting like that

there are enough threads allready on evry type of Hardware on the forum

????

I didn't wanna start a new thread if there was a related one so ill tack my question onto the end.

Basically I'm looking to get into home recording etc

as far as soundcards go it looks like a toss up between a Delta 44 and Delta 10x10lt...

anyway, as far as the Delta 10lt, would it work fine if i used mic pre amps infront of the channels?
e.g, If I had 8 mic pre amps, i would be able to use all 8 channels of the card?

as far as i know to use any of the channels on Delta 44 or other delta cards you need a preamp or mixer infront of every channel anyway, so is a 10x10 basically the same as all other delta cards except it doesnt have a breakout box (bar the slightly different dB and THD rates)?

thank you in advance and sorry if some of the questions are mindnumbingly obvious

Most of them I guess ...

they got 2 pre's allready and if you put a mixer in front of it to bring the other signals up to line level you will prob have enough channels ...

you might wanna check out the yamaha mg 16/4 or the cheaper behringer series
mackie mixers are supposed to be even better ... but thats a whole new thread ... search the forum for those threads ... and check out the manufacturer's specs
