The Pie Guy
OK...........

I have been reading and performing searches on my particular problem and I am still more or less in the dark ...........

My system is an HP Pavillion XL 753...
128megs RAM (100 speed)
30 gig HD
666 Mghz..

Now the potenial source of the problem....
It appears that my soundcard is not a soundcard at all but, a chip-set called Riptide which is part of the Modem audio hardware(ARRRRGH!)

I have been successful in recording on a e-magic proto-type software but, the files come out at approximately 70-80-megs for 4 minutes of sound (usually 4 tracks) which is WAY to big...ya know?

I now have Cakewalk Pro 9 and I can record .WAV files fine through the line in on this Riptide thing.

I can also create midi tracks for drums using the samples in Cakewalk (I've tried using soundfonts but, have not been successful...so I am using GM sound for now...) i change the tempo to fit what I want and then cut and paste...etc..etc....

Now the real problem...
I can hear the Midi sound on playback but when I try to record it and output a combined .WAV track and a MIDI track....all I get is the .WAV sound.

I have tried every possible combination of source and output....no luck.

Now the questions...
Will this "chip-set" called Riptide allow me to combine MIDI and .WAV files to one final output? (there is a MIDI driver called "Riptide MPU 401" which Cakewalk says should work (because it has this MPU 401 tag on it...)

Second question...
Do I need to send the MIDI files to some other program to convert them to .WAV?

I have read the manual...I have read the Tutorials...
I think that I am missing something here...

Last question...
If the above are unsolvable without a hardware purchase....can I buy a soundcard that is external from the CPU (ya know...sort of plug in USB kinda thing) so that I do not have to crack open the CPU case??

Any help would be truly appreciated.

That is correct - midi is not a sound, it is only an instruction for a synth/drum machine to make a sound.

You have to go through the process of converting your midi instructions into wave sounds and then you mix the waves.

Thank you both

Thank you gentlemen....
I will give it a shot.
