I am currently in the process of setting up my PC so that I can begin to record with it. Could someone please suggest a soundcard that has the following:
Midi interface
At least 2 audio inputs
One pair of stereo outs (1/4" jacks)
A latency of 200ms (or less)
Around 20-but a/d converter

The catch is I can spend only up to 200 pounds (about 350 dollars) because the rest of my money is going to go on multitracking and mastering software. Any help would be much appreciated.

A M-Audio Delta 44 and a Midiman Midisport would hit you up for about that much, maybe a little less....the Midisport are USB devices so your computer would have to have USB ports....

M-Audio Delta 44

Thanks for your help! The M-Audio Delta 44 sounds like the kind of card I´m looking for BUT i´t doesn´t appear to have MIDI ins and outs (or am I just being stupid?). I tend to record most of my backing tracks with a Korg Trinity and I need to edit precisely with MIDI....thanks in advance.

I am being stupid aren´t I?

Sorry about this...you meant I should use the M-Audio Delta 44 AND the Midiman Midi Sport together, right? See what happens when you get overworked...

That precisely what I meant...its done quite often by people here....alot of your better cards dont have midi inputs so its common to have a Midisport type unit or another card for midi....just be sure your computer has USB ports....

Have you selected software yet? If not, you may want to get suggestions here to make sure you can do the precise editing youd like....I dont fool too much with MIDI, but alot of guys here do...

Now, relax...unwind...get a drink....getting a computer setup for recording is ALOT harder than getting a standalone type digital recorder, but the rewards are WELL worth it.....

Thank you

Thanks once again for all your help...the problem is I don´t have anyone I can talk to in person when it comes to setting up my PC for recording!
The m audio delta 44 and the midisport sound like a resonable idea but will I need to use my USB port for something else to do with recording in the future. I haven´t yet chosen the multitracking and mastering software I want to use (but Cubase VST 5 looks appealing) but of course I want to be sure that it will be compatible with the soundcard I get. Are there some soundcards that work better with some programs or is it just luck? For some reason buying a "package" (same brand soundcard, programs etc) seems to suggest lower quality to me

wow!

The audiosport Quattro looks pretty cool! When did it come out?
I think it´s priced reasonably for what it is but I still need to get some more specs.
So will it work like any other normal soundcard at the same time?
Thanks for your help

GlamSlam:

According to the manufacturer, it is available to the public this week.

It works like any other soundcard. I've been looking for a soundcard for a few weeks, and have decided on this one. I'm going to purchase one today from http://www.audiomidi.com

It will be a few weeks before I can get working with it, but I'll let you know how it goes.

hey,
sorry to ask a question in the middle of a thread but its a quickie. Im geting the dleta 44, i can pull out my old sound card right, i mean i dont need it? The delta 44 will be ok for mp3s and that right? the soundcard i have now is like 15.00. im just making sure....
