Soundcard necessary?

if you already got PT free or LE whatever...just drop a few bucks on a a decent sound card. the delta 410 for $110 would do fine. then you'll have the option to listen (i.e. monitoring) to the mix at any time, you can listen while you record the vocals. all you'll need is the mic-->a pre amp-->sound card. that would be your best and cheapest option. besides, you'll need the pre and the mic anyway.

Hey, Apple, why are you so convinced you need an MD anyway?

People reccomended it to me since Im only recording vocals and I wanted it to cost within the $100-$300 range.

Interesting idea, but then I wouldnt have the portablility option, and my computer isnt in a studio like room.

-EDIT- Actually i may consider sacrificing portablilty after looking at what i think my options are. Im still slim on knowledge but it seems like better minidisc recorders like the Sony MD 8 are a little more involved and more expensive(around 1 grand) than I thought. I still dont understand what type of minidisc whould work for recording cause the cheaper smaller ones look like dictaphones compared to the bigger ones that look like mixers. On the other hand a budget digital recorder like a Fostex MR8 is in the $300.00 range, which would still be more than the soundcard route. And i guess since it has USB out i wouldnt need a souncard for that? But, I would have "monitoring" with a soundcard. Thats kindof where my reasoning is at right now. Please, fill me in on any descrepancies with your opinions.
