Hi,
I'm researching to get a new soundcard for my laptop Mac and I have been looking at different solutions, like the RME Fireface and Presonus Firestudio. One thing i don't really get is the "software mixers" that they are talking about for these products. E.g. in the case of Fireface "total mix".
What is the function of these "mixers"? I thought the point was to get, say 4 sources of sound into 4 channels in your recording software. Then you can mix them whatever way want within that software. Why would you want to mix with yet another software??? Please Educate me!
