Hi everyone!! It would be helpful if anyone knows if there is such a thing as a rack mountable breakout-box with soundcard with possibly 8 analog I/O for approx $250 - (possibly less). If not then the breakout box does not have to be rack mountable.

Thanks! :)

Not for only $250 or less. Might be able to find something on ebay.
For about $300 there is the Phase 88.
If your willing to fore go the breakout box ... there is the 1010LT.

The Echo Layla/24 has 8 I/O but it may be a bit more than $250. Probably like $400 or so. The card is discontinued now, but you can probably get a used one on ebay.

Hope this helps.

The Behringer ADA8000 is an 8-channel rackmount preamp A/D/A converter unit with ADAT out. Goes for around $230. You can pick up an adat card for around $100.

There's also the Delta1010LT, and 8 channel pci card for $220. It's only got 2 preamps so you'll need a mixer or something as wll

good soundcards for $79.99

yo go to musician'sfriend.com the got the hottest stuff for the cheapest price. a sound card would run you about 79.99 for reel

For this price range, the 1010LT is your best bet. No breakout box, spagetti instead.
You should really ask yourself, do I need all those inputs/outputs(i.e., how many
tracks will you be recording simultaneously)? If you can get by with 2 inputs, then there are many other options like 2496 for $99.

Yeah, actually looking to record 8 trcks simultaneously.

I think your better off with a breakout box, it tends to make a little less noise than cards with the inputs on the PCI card. (so I hear this anyway).

I saw a used RME for $400 last night on Ebay. Thats a good price for much better converters than have been listed on this posting so far. It is over your requested budget though:(

just remember that you will need a preamp for every input you want to use for recording, do you have a mixer or preamps for all o fthese channels? and you will also need high quality cables to connect the two. THe price always seems to add up...
HOw much is the delta 1010LT? one alternative i was thinking of is going with the echo GINA 3G, you would get 2 highquality preamps, then you could add the suggested behringer unit via adat for 10 channels. I don't know how this price would compare to the others mentioned but the GINA is pretty competativly priced.

Not at all dude, if he is recording lets say an MPC2000 all he has to do is plug cables from his MPC outputs directly into his sound card inputs. He would use a pre-amp if he was using microphone's not external synths or samplers like the MPC. And he would need a mixer if he has more outputs with his external gear than inputs on his sound card.

ah right you are, i was spectulating he was gonna be using mics only

I have the older version of the Phase 88. Its the EWS 88/MT. The Phase 88 looks exactly the same with a little differance in the colors. It is 299 where i paid 399 for the 88/MT. Great card. I say give it a try.

Hi again everybody!! I've been looking around, and I've seen some soundcards with breakout boxes like the delta 44, 66 and omni-studio. Even though the 44 and 66 only have 4 I/O, would you be able to link two 44's or two 66's together to that you can record 8 tracks simultaneously, but each track having their own separate track on the software's mixer as if you had a delta 1010?? If this is possible, how is this done (which ins to outs)??

Thanks in advance! :)

Jamesie

You can hook 2 66s together (up to 4 in fact) via s/pdif.

The 44s don't have s/pdif jacks, and when I asked M-Audio if they could work together, they replied they "MAY" do using the Multiple Card Sync Option

Even with say, two 66's synced, and I was recording from all 8 of the inputs simultaneously, would there be 8 separate tracks being recorded to the computer? or would there 8 instruments being recorded to 4 tracks on the computer?

Also, this might sound stupid but would you have to insert two of the pci cards from each 66 into the computer?? Then would you use a RCA to RCA plug to connect both s/pidf on each card to sync them?

Thank-you

Jamesie

Yep 8 seperate tracks.

Yes, you'd install both cards, so you need 2 spare pci slots. You need a proper s/pdif cable too - I think they're a bit different from regular rca leads.

2 66s would be quite a cool setup. Remember you'll also need 8 preamps if you're going to record 8 mics

Edit: 2 66s will cost $380 and blow your budget. The Phase 88 give's you 8 ins in a breakout box for $300. Cheapest 8 inputs, without a breakout box, is still the 1010LT, now going for $210

Thanks for your advice Bulls Hit!! I was kinda thinking to either buy a used delta 1010 or buy one delta 66, and when I get enough money, I'll buy another one.

Thanks again :)
