im computer illiterate so bear with me. what role does the computers soundcard play when recording and monitoring through a USB interface? i use a tascam us-122, and i dont use my computer speakers for anything, so does my soundcard matter? should i upgrade? if so, what should i upgrade to?

Doesn't sound like you're even using your soundcard. If everything is done with your USB interface, then you don't even need a soundcard.

thats what i was wondering. i mean i sometimes listen to music through my computer speakers, but i dont do anything recording related through them so i dont know what role my soundcard plays.

If you don"t have anything plugged into your Sound card (Speakers,Mic ect) then it isn"t serveing a Purpose at all...If you have your Computer speakers plugged into it then all it is doing is Outputing a signal to your Speakers but if you can plug them into your Tascam then you don"t need it...

an Interface and sound Card are Basicly the same thing so if you have a seperate USB Interface then it basicly replaces your sound card....

Cheers :)
