soundcard + compressor

maybe a stupid question, but how do you connect a compressor if you are using a preamp on the soundcard? I have an Edirol Fa101 firewire interface and I want to use my comp16 compressor with the pres on my interface. Thanks!

Not a stupid question. Normally, you would attach a compressor to the "Insert" jack on your preamp/mixer (or, alternately, place the compressor between the preamp and the soundcard). However, since the Edirol is both your preamp and soundcard, and it does not appear to have inserts, your situation is unique.

What I would do, is run a loop from one of the outputs through the compressor and back into one of the inputs. If that doesn't work, check the manual.
