What makes SB attractive for a low-budget minded home musician is the on-board EMU synth chip. This can eliminate the need for soft synths, synths and sound modules.
From what I have been reading here, EVERY other card is better than SB for audio I/O.
What my usages are :
MIDI editor / player
8 track digtal software ( 2 tracks at a time )
Windows Media Player for WAV, MP3 and Video
What would you recommend as a soundcard, with midi in/out capabalities, single line in / out.
What alternatives are there for soft synth's or DLS if soundcard does not have on-board synth like SB does ?
Which ones are resource hungry ( i.e. need faster PC or lots of RAM )
Note: Current synth is not GM compatible. Planning to get a new synth that is GM compatible. May eliminate need for softsynth
Any additional thought or comments would be appreciated.
