soundcard $100-200 range

I'm trying to find a good soundcard, for the money range i have. I have about 100-200 dollars to play with. Any suggestions?

The soundcard i have in my computer is just a horrible factory card. You can even hear the whirring of cd's and just so many artifacts (i guess that's what we'd call em) from sound its just awful
 
I use a TASCAM US122, about $200. I think it's great, but some people have set up issues.
 
are soundcard's hard to install. I've installed memory and such, and a cd drive before, so is it any more difficult

No harder than installing any other PCI card. I put in two Layla's in my 'puter with no problems.

The device apl recommended is USB, so that's not even an issue if you go with that one.
 
from that device, it basically bypasses the computer's soundcard, and goes directly into the speakers by usb?
 
E-Mu 0404 or M-Audio 2496. Both around $100 and come bundled with quality software. The Emu comes with Cubasis
