Soundblaster Extigy?

Hey, I'm into laptop recording...looking into an external sound card (connectivity via USB)...and was wondering if anyone has tried the Soundblaster Extigy? If so, is it pretty good? Is there recording software that comes with it? If not, which program would be good (that isn't too pricey)? Thanks!!

I don't think the extigy is a recording card. Isn't it just a normal consumer card like the audigy? If so it's probalby not on par with other cards you could get.

How many sources are you looking to record at the same time? Do you need preamps?

As for preamps...yep, I do need those...obviously I'd prefer built-in preamps in a card. I'm looking for quality, but would settle for card that with even one set of inputs/outputs...as long as they were stereo...and a 1/4" TRS fitting. With regard to M-Audio...I'm somewhat familiar with them...I got their Quattro awhile back...I thought it had built-in preamps, but it doesn't...the darn thing has been a royal pain to get working, in any case. Any other good ones come to mind?

I'm not really sure with USB interfaces.. Maybe you can check out Tascam? I know they have a USB interface that's also a control surface and I think it has two preamps. Hold on...

Take a look at that. I'm not sure what your price range is but I think you can get one of those for like, 500 or something. Do a search for more info on them.
