Ok, my Dell came with a stock Soundblaster.I've read on various forums that with another "high priced" card such as an m-audio audiophile, I'd experience more depth. Is this true?I have a Digital out on the soundblaster(which I've never used, because I've never bought the proper cables) so currently I'm using the 1/8 out.Technically since the soundblaster has digital, if I used that digital out, would it compare in terms of depth to the audiophile, and if not why and how?

Soundblaster just can't equil a GOOD soundcard. The A/D converters are nowhere near as good. What do you have to connect the digital out put to?

The perception of "depth" has far more to do with how you've recorded and/or processed your signal than any difference you will be able to percieve between the SoundBlaster and better cards. The SoundBlaster will serve you perfectly well as a starting point and can give you good results.

I am actually programming an album via Cubase and Sampletank VST.No live instruments, all digital.Thats why I asked if digital would be better than the 1/8 ouput. The digital would be going into the 1/8 or RCA in puts of my Roland micro monitors.

The digital will be better than the analog on that card. The digital clock in the soundblaster is complete crap and will rob you of your depth. Higher end cards will give you better results. Soundblasters are a joke.
