I have think theater curtains going all the way around the room, pillows, blankets, comforters. All in the corners for bass traps. I can't do any sort of construction at all. I've heard egg cartons works fairly well. Does anyone know of any other ways to sound proof/acoustically sound proof a room? secrets to get that annoying fuzz/background noise out. Thanks.

Are you trying to sound proof or acoustically treat the room? The two are completely unrelated - and to some extent, at odds with each other.

If you're getting some "annoying hiss" it's probably gear related. If it's a noisy room, you need to stop the noise.

Egg cartons (useless garbage), theater curtains (traps a little high end), foam (more high end), pillows, blankets, comforters (that's bedding - Not acoustic treatment) -- Putting curtains in a corner doesn't make a bass trap.

Other ways? Sure - "Right" ways - with actually reasonable materials for the job.

There's a little info here (with links to more): http://www.massivemastering.com/blog/index_files/Basic_Room_Setup.php

I run direct with electric bass, drums, and guitar. vocals is the only thing I use a mic for. So I figure I'd just have to treat it acoustically. Thanks for the help\site, ill check it out!

You heard wrong. They do nothing but take high freq content out of your room.

You still haven't answered if you want to acoustically treat your room or sound proof it.

Sound proofing means that your goal is to keep sound from transmitting in and out of your room.

Acoustically treating your room would refer towards making your room more ideal for mixing or tracking.

There are very different steps towards doing either of those effectively.

Which are you trying to do?
