I want to record live and electrical music in a room in my basement. Is it possible to isolate this room completly so that is does not disturb my parents. If so what are the products that I need.
Thanks

There are many ways you can soundproof a room. One way is to go with a custom built room. I have found that a wood frame (yes you have to build it), insulation, and burlap work pretty well. On the other hand you could just pad the hell out of it with egg crate mattress pads. Just be sure that you keep adequate ventialtion. I built a booth that was almost airtight..i wondered y i always felt light headed and tired after recording vocals....

Anyone else have ideas?

That's a good idea. I was wondering if you will be using this room often to record and practice. (Permanent set-up?) Because if not, it may be cheaper to get your parents out of the house for the week-end. Buy them a 2 day package in the country or something and you, have a recording week-end to yourself. Those are cool.

If not, this is a good page you may want to look at www.mcs.net/~malcolm/

It talks about Recording Studio Design and it has great articles too.

Take it easy.

Trailblazer,

Live and "electrical" music? I was thinkin' that you were doing "electronic" music, but "electrical"? That may be dangerous! :D

Kidding. Generic is on the right track. My extra suggestions are to seal the door to the upstairs real tightly and play softer. Record your "live" parts (drums et al) during the day when you wouldn't be distrubing anyone. Since you're also playing electronic stuff also, you can use the nightime to record the electonic stuff where you could lower your playing volume (while maintaining intensity) by using headphones.
