Has anybody used the idea of separating there room where the booth is in a smaller room inside separated with 2-3 foot space?

Space = Air = lousy sound insulation! Unless you mean space (as in outer space) = vacuum = GREAT sound insulation!

Well, a small air gap tends to be part of sound isolation.

Sound proofing is achieved by a mixture of mass and physically de-coupling the two areas to avoid mechanical transmission of the sound vibrations. In terms of the walls, this is often achieved by having an outer wall made of heavy concrete blocks, an air gap of 3 or 4 inches then a heavy inner concrete wall.

The trouble is, this is only the walls. Sound transmission can travel via the floor and ceiling--in a large studio the inner wall is often sitting on a "floating" floor while the outer wall is on the main floor. Similarly, the studio ceiling is generally some kind of heavy material supported by the inner wall with no physical connection to the main ceiling.

What I'm trying to point out is that, unless you have huge amounts of money and space to burn, thoughts of true sound proofing simply aren't practical (and I haven't even talked about cable runs, windows, doors, ventilation, etc. etc.).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
