Sound polyphony limit?

Hi I would like to know if there is definite sound polyphony limitation (how many samples simultaneously can be played) on PC? But this is not practical question about how powerful is PC, I would like to know if there is any theoretical limitation? Maybe it is OS dependent?

It is completely dependent on the DAW (how many tracks it is capable of) AND the computer's speed and RAM.

... and the particular VSTi you're using as well (possibly - I'm guessing)
