sound editing software

things like soundmaker and peak: can anyone recommend any free or shareware programs for sound editing, rather than mixing and things.

i have no clue what soundmaker and peak are, but Goldwave is a good, free editor.....

I agree with Gidge, GoldWave is a good editor, but it's shareware - $40 US and I think it only runs on Windows.
