This may be a silly question

I am looking at buying a computer and they are asking if i want to upgrade $$$ to a better sound card....would there be any point in doing this if i am going to buy a recording soundcard. Would the recording soundcard do the same thing in terms of DVD's CD's

Thanks
C

No point at all if you are considering a recording soundcard. The only thing you would ever use the one they ship you the PC with is to use it for MIDI, and that depends on whether the new one has MIDI or not (many don't).

I disagree....
The only advantage I see however is that they could install the high end card for you....that is if they sell them...or you bring it to them....unless you feel comfortable cracking the case on your computer and doing it yourself....

It is not that hard to do yourself....
You just need to be gentle and careful.....and grounded...

Some soundcards (like my MOTU 2408) do not connect with the ROM in that you can't play back a CD and have it come out of the soundcard. If this ain't a big deal to you (it sure doesn't bother me) I'd tell them to keep their soundcard altogether.
