I would like to record to my home computer. I have a 12g Pll 350 192 mg ram with a yamaha ds-xg legacy sound system which came stock. I bought Guitar tracks 2 and am just playing for now. I will be recording acoustic and vocals. I have a old fishman model g acoustic pre-amp and a shure sm57. I've laid down a few songs and am not happy with the quality. Low volumes and some distortion even though the levels are not red? Where should I start to upgrade. I just want to save my original compositions to CD for family and friends etc. TIA

The mic in on the sound card is probably horrid. An outboard mixer of some kind should help. But I would think you would be able to get good levels from the Fishman to plug into the Line In jack. Are you plugging in a stereo plug to the card? Did you adjust the gain in the Windows mixer?

The Fishman works fine. A lot of noise & distortion with some notes, chords. Thought it might be the sound card. I have the mic plugged into the mic in. I almost have to eat it to get sound. All volumes are up all the way. The jack is 1/4 to 1/8 and I assume it's stereo.
