Sound Card Recomendations

Hello. I'm fairly new to this DAW stuff, but I'm really good with computers. I need a sound card that can record 8 inputs simultainiously. I will be using an outboard 8 bus mixer. The computer is an AMD Athlon 1GHZ with 256 Megs of ram and two 30.0GB 7200 rpm hard drives. I was looking at something called a Guillemot ISIS, which is the only thing that I can find with 8 inputs at a reasonable price, but I've heard it's not very good. Any info you can provide would be helpful. Thanks a bunch!

Check this out...he swears by his...from there, its up to you and your sonic expectations....as far as it not being any good, its one of the better consumer cards ...but then when you get into pro- sumer and pro cards, you are talking money..... it may lack in areas, but you will get what you are paying for....
 
what is a reasonable price??

$399, that's pretty cheap!! makes me wonder why I haven't seen them mentioned more???

you can also check out the M-Audio Delta1010 (if you're willing to spend a bit more)....

the Delta line of products get great reviews for their A/D converters and what not. I have a Delta44 and it kicks butt.

Compatibility

Thanks for all the useful, quick replies guys. I also emailed Guillemot about compatibility with AMD processors and VIA chipsets, which I had read was a problem. They said that the current model, the XL, shouldn't have any incompatibility issues. Just thought you might find that interesting...we'll see if it actually works....

Guillemot Maxi Studio Great

I run the maxi studio and there is nothing for that price that comes close!!
