sound card direction

i'm a pro musician and new to world of digital/computer recording i seek some guidance and assistance in choosing a sound card that will meet my specific needs,
here is my situation-
i use acid on my gateway pc to record drum tracks/loops. it's basically used as nothing but a drum machine.
i want to take my computer into a pro studio and run the acid via a soundcard into the board in the studio.
i want to record each drum track on acid as an individual track in the studio. that way each track; be it a snare, or a bass drum, etc. is seperated and can by eq'd and fx'd seperately and randomly on an outside recording device.
here's my main question-
i have at most sixteen tracks of drums on the acid i want to send out of my computer, on indiviual tracks, at the same time. how do i do this? and can i do it for under $1000 dollars. i'm on a budget and need to record a demo soon.
any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
 
Digidesign's Digi001 or 2 Delta 1010's.....the 001 goes for about 800.00 now and 2 1010's will go for at least 1000.00 maybe 1100.00....

Both are good solid cards...Im curious why you wanna bring a computer in the studio....With Acid you can just make the 16 (or however many) wav files, one for each drum sound and burn them too a CD and bring that to the studio(provided they are Wav file capable....If you are using the digi001 and protools software that comes with it, there are alot of studios that work with ProTools.....maybe you could get away with just getting ProTools free...it is only 8 tracks, but you could dump 8 of the tracks from acid to one protools file, 8 to another and bring the two protools tracks to the studio..are you following me yet....i may have just solved your problem for $1000 less than your $1000 budget....

where do i get the free pro tools version?
i'm assuming it's a demo, correct?
and can i merge the two 8 track pro tool files together in the studio version of pro tools, to make a sixteen track drum take?
also, when you say burn it to cd as a wave file you mean each
seperate drum track off acid, or the entire track as a collective drum track to be seperated later in the studio?

This is a 8 track fully functional program...not a demo...

If the studio you go to is protools equipped, you would bring in two files...one will have 8 tracks and the other will have 8 tracks....im assuming they can import them in to their setup (it would be safe to talk with a studio to make sure this is feasable).....

If the studio is working with protools, youd just burn the 2 protools files....

If they work with wav files in another software, then youd burn each track from Acid individually as a wav file (unless the studio has Acid, then you can just burn the 1 acid file.....

i downloaded the pro tools, but i can't figure it out?
i also downloaded the documents for free pro tools and everytime i try to install them nothing happens.
maybe you could shed some light on my dillema, you seem to know alot about these types of things......
 
You might wanna start up a new thread and look for people who have used it...I downloaded it because I was going to use it as an editor, but I found something better.....I wish I could help you on this one, but Im sure quite a few people here do use it....
 
2 used adats and spdif soundcard goes for about 1000 nowdays
check your local adds i know of a few here in kc or try ebay.
also two yamaha dsp factories and four breakout boxes provide for 16 outputs and go for arround 1000 now too.
 
hey wait a minute

i have acid 2.0 and i can mix on it and add fx and eq. you shouldnt need to take it to a studio to do this.
 
Pro Tools Free

Hello

Maybe I can help you with your Pro Tools Free problem. You need a fast PC or Mac to use the software. On my PIII 1GHz with 128 Mb ram it works, but 128 MB ram is the minimum!!

On the site of digidesign (www.digidesign.com) you can find the minimum system requierments and also the free downloadfile or a free CD they can send to you.

I hope that solves your problem.

thanks for the feedback. i found out what the problem was; i needed the adobe reader program in order to read the free pro tools refrence and instruction book.
