Is this a good sound card? any pros or cons on this card?

Cons - Made by Creative Labs

This is not to say that the card itself if probably bad. CL makes good hardware. Their drivers on the other hand...

If you do some searching in this forum you'll find some heated debates. It is my opinion that the audigy is not in the same class as the lower end of prosumer soundcards (Delta series, Echo MIA, etc), and that it is only a good buy if you get the CHEAP version. You can get an OEM audigy for <$60 and for that price it's probably not such a bad deal. If you pay for the big package, which can run up to $199, then you are throwing your money away.

It's only a 16-bit card. Do not believe Creative's advertising; it is NOT a 24-bit card.

24/96 playback but only 16/48 record. As Slack mentioned, don't get the high end Audigy (Platinum EX etc) as it is just a lower priced audigy with lots of bells and whistles - waste of money. It would serve well for MIDI, but again, only go for the OEM Audigy.

Are you referring to the SB Audigy Platinum? If so, breakout box is really convenient. I've only had mine for a couple of weeks and so far it's performing fine. Presently, I only use it for acoustic guitar (onboard pre-amp and piezo) -straight into the front panel Line2/Mic2, or line out from my amp for electric guitar. Based on the response I received on a similar post I started a few days ago (see somewhere below) it depends on what you're going to be doing. Basically, if you can live with 16 bit recording versus 24, and don't ry to get too fancy, you may be happy with the card.

Have fun,

rpe
