i have an omni i/o box connected to a delta44.

as most of you know the omni has a power on/off switch as well as a phantom power switch.

i noticed that when i have phantom power on that the box heats up quite a bit. i'm sure that's normal but i'd like to know if it's okay to leave the omni box switched on.

i mean......can it get too hot? is it possible that it will break down if i leave it switched on for a few hours? even without phantom power it gets warm.

what would you do?

switching the omni on and off each time i using it or leaving it switched on for a recording session? 3-4hours.

or would you simply switch off phantom power while you're not recording?

?????

i'm sorry if this seems a bit stupid to some of you but i'm so scared of my omni going down.

Don't worry too much about it. Gear generally runs hot to some extend. It would be a good idea though to switch the power off on the whole rig at night. Wall warts tend to get hot too and there are stories about those catching fire.
Not that I do it every night, but I think I should. Just to be on the safe side.

well...

as far as the soundcard itself, i own the OMNI setup(thru delta66) and ive had it on for 12 hours and saw no changes in quality of the audio... or overheating problems.

but ive never left the mic pre on unless i was using it. i rarely recording vocals for more then 4 hours anyway so the problem never shows up.

christiaan seems on point. the gear will be fine, but id cut it off just for safety reasons

peace
