So I've searched for awhile and from the little I found, it seems the US-122 is a decent little unit.

I was just curious if there are any major issues with using the thing with a Mac laptop running OS X? Also any sound issues that anyone's had? Any horror stories?

I am buying this as a gift for someone who isn't that competent with computer/ driver/ etc. issues. So I'd like it to be as plug and play as possible. I really want to get a good product and this seems like it might be one.

I haven't heard of anything like that.

I think it's probably a pretty good product, just has a few bugs on certain systems that need to be worked out.

My only real complaint is the lack of an included manual with Cubasis. For someone with no computer recording experience going in, it has been kind of tough to figure everything out. I'm sure it will come with practice, but it has been frustrating so far. Someone with more experience would probably have no problem with it.
 
Is there a manual for it online, or on a CD? Or no manual available at all?
 
If there is, I haven't been able to find it.

It's Cubasis, so I think the idea of including it with the 122 is to get you hooked and sell you the more expensive Cubase later. Not including a manual doesn't help though because now I have no idea how good Cubase may actually be. It's just too much of a pain in the ass to work without a referece source.

My advice would be to go ahead and buy the 122. I think it's a pretty good deal for the price, even with the few little quirks I have had to endure so far.
 
I have a US-122, i use it in a PC WinXP system though, and it''s working like a charm... Clean, no issues, reliable...
 
I have a US-122 running on a Athlon 1.4 ghz notebook XP.........The ASIO drivers are pure CRAP....(dont work properly in Sonar, Fruityloops and various other apps) been waiting for new drivers for ages.

The midi sync has timing instability issues......(i still cant get my sampler and synth to play in perfect time together) but that may be due to the Shitty drivers.

As for a straight in recording device tho it does the job and its extremely portable.

I am using the US-122 with a G-4 Imac and have had no problems other than operator error. :rolleyes:

It takes a little bit of work find your way about the unit but a lot less than most others I have heard about.

I began with ProTools but foudn it overkill for wha I use the unit for (voice overs) But I found a bundled piece of software with the mac called Sound Studio from Felttip.com. Its right there on the Mac and works well as a stereo or mono recorder complete with eq, compression.... Its a great way to learn.

I use the us-122 with a dual G4 and I have no problems at all. It works fine with Garageband and Logic in my experience. Would not hesitate to buy it for someone using a mac. Most of the issues appear to be on the PC side.

As far as Cubasis, the manual is availible online. Try the tascam site if you need it.

I used the US122 to record the song in my signature line. I'n very pleased with the results. I am only limited by my talent.

However, I would urge you to consider Cakewalk's Home Studio software. The bundled Cubasis seems to be limited to 8 tracks, and it is not very intuitive. The HS comes with Fruity Loops, I understand, which would be very useful because real drummers have issues...:cool:
 
After all this time I finally got mine working properly...and have gotta admit I'm pretty happy with it.

I had a problem when I was doing anything on the screen (closing and opening windows, couldn't even have the 'follow song' option on) the soundcard would drop out completely. It even happened when playing back MP3's. I thought my computer was incompatible, but I racked my brains for awhile...and figured it might be to do with a visual setting somewhere. Found a setting in the control panel for my videocard, and found an option for hardware acceleration, and put it to the lowest setting. Since doing that my soundcard has performed faultlessly.

My internet connection used to drop out frequently as well...but adjusting this setting seems to have rectified it. I'm not really sure what this setting does otherwise...but everythings running smoothely so I can't complain :D
