OK, I'm ready to get a mobile recording set-up. I need it to a) fit in a shoulder bag (so that I can walk to a gig and record it) b) record to WAV files (so that I can move the files straight to my desktop computer for mixing and editing) c) record 8 tracks at once. So far, the set-up I'm leaning towards is the MOTU 896 and a Sony Vaio Picturebook (perhaps with a real fast firewire harddrive as well). This combination must have occurred to someone else at some point... right? So has anyone had any experiences with this set-up? How about recording 8 tracks on a picturebook? Any cautionary tales? What's the slowest CPU/Memory/HD set-up that one can record 8-tracks at once? Where are we all going? What's the meaning of life? BLAH BLAH BLAH... please help me before I plop down $2000!
