Sorry to post this here, but no-one seems to use the sony forum. Is there difference between Sony CD Architect 5.2c OEM from a load of websites and the one you can buy/download direct from Sony. It seems so much cheaper, which worries me a little. Is it legal? Why is it $60 in stead of $130? Can i upgrade?

Ok, I've read about OEM software, and i don't trust it. So what is better from Sony CD Architect and steinberg wavelab essential for mastering and burning direct to cd. I plan to use reaper for recording/mixing and one of these (CD Architect seems best to me) for mastering. Is that a good idea?

Is there anywhere i can legally download Sony CD Architect?

If i buy in the UK, it's a lot more expensive than buying from the US, even downloading directly from the company. They offer it for $112.46 (£63.88) download, but when i try to buy the price jumps to £77.95(or £85.95 packaged). I can buy the packaged software for around £80-100 in the UK but I've found some American suppliers who sell the packaged software for $99(£56!) and some even less, and am just wondering if there is the same competition for downloads.

For the packaged software, I basically pay at least 50% more because I'm British! I hate having to pay more for something just for being British! I feel like saying, "fuck them" and downloading illegally or buying the OEM but i wont!

EDIT: I've found mdofpc.com for $101.99. Is this legal and/or is there anything else like it?

Can't help you with your problem but just wanted to add, CD Architect is by far the best software that I have used for that purpose but now that I have switched to a mac, I am in search of something that will do the same :(

I think it looks legit. But you could post the question at the Sony sight.

What is your concern re: OEM?
OEM was my concern, but i read a bit about it and really don't trust it. So I'm looking for another legit but cheap way to get this software. Can't buy in the UK, and shipping from US would probably make it just as bad. So I'm looking for a legit way to download, other than from the makers website(too expensive and I pay more 'cause I'm British!). Thanks

Theres no such thing as OEM audio software availble to buy. The only "OEM" stuff are things like BFD Ultralite and Cubase LE which comes packed with audio interfaces. Its generally super stripped down versions of the software that you would not want to pay for anyways. There are no OEM versions of the major programs that are legit.

Thanks. Yeah i had read about it, and realised it wasn't legit.

I have Cubase LE too, came with my Tascam FW-1804, and I've quickly jumped to Reaper.

Hmmm... well... OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) may be stripped down, castrated, or otherwise dumbed down software but not necessarily. All of the copies of WindowsXP that I've bought have been OEM copies purchased perfectly legally through an authorized vendor. The vendor may have been fudging, but I was covered. It is also not unknown for vendors to strip the 'full-blow' OEM software from hardware and resell it separately.

When purchasing OEM apps your supplier may be in violation of their agreements with the manufacturer, but your purchase is legal and warranted.

OEM Operating systems, etc are one thing. There is no such thing as OEM PRO AUDIO software. I work with all the major pro audio software companies every single day.
