I have a Sony APR-5003 1/4" half-track studio deck. It works perfectly and has recently relapped heads. There are some chips in the paint on the front edge of the unit and above the splicing block (from editing).
I bought this machine with the intention of running a pro-level mastering setup at home, but financial and space constraints mean it has to go. I have the original manual and remote control. I am the third owner of the deck which was manufactured in 1988. Casablanca Sound and Picture in Toronto was the original owner, after which it was bought by a local recording engineer for a short period of archive work. It was well maintained throughout its life, and as I stated above, the heads were relapped when it was sold to the local engineer. I've thoroughly cleaned the tape path and freshened the pinch roller. It's had little to no use in my ownership (<2hrs).
The deck could use some alignment which the manual describes in detail. I don't have a tone generator so my abilities are limited.
If you can find a 1/2" head stack for the 5000 Series, the transport can quickly and easily be converted to run 1/2" tape. I have a blank unused 10.5" reel of 1/2" Ampex 456 that I can throw in with the deck.
I am looking to get $1000CDN or best offer for the machine. There have been other APR-5003's listed on various other sites from $1300-3000. My price reflects the cosmetic defects as stated above. I can deliver in the GTA, Hamilton/Burlington, Guelph, Kitchener/Waterloo and Cambridge, or the deck can be picked up in Guelph. Send a PM if interested, I can give my contact info that way.
