Hey I just signed up to ask whats the deal with the Soundcraft 328XD, I have looked through all its specs and have found it to be nothing but a great mixer with some of the greatest interconnectivity shown by any of its rivals. Here are some quick specs:-

-Interfaces to ADAT, TDIF, S/PDIF and AES/EBU as standard (no cards)

-E-Strip technology - See parameters the way you want to

-Legendary Soundcraft EQ and Dynamics processing

-Up to 42 inputs at Mixdown, plus 8 groups, and 16 direct outputs.

-16 Mic/Line and 5 stereo inputs

-16 digital inputs ( or tape returns ) in ADAT™ Optical and TDIF™ formats

-Integrated meterbank for all inputs and outputs

-2 high resolution superb quality Lexicon effects units

-100mm motorized faders, comprehensive dynamic automation

-24-bit ADCs and DACs (128x oversampling) & 56-bit internal processing

-MIDI Controller mode to remote control your sequencers & synths.

They also sell all the breakout boxes for TDIF to 8 mic/line inputs!

And all for around £2000 ($4500)

Any ideas otherwise this beast might just join ranks with the rest of my kit soon?

Thanks

I meant soundcraft damnitt

First thread and i spell the title wrong, there is no hope

I don't think it does 96k, does it?

Take a look at the new TASCAM DM-3200 that was just announced. Street price will be around $3,000 US, and I think the feature set is better.

I use the 328 (not the XD), and minus the fact the mine doesn't have 96k, it's the most functional small format digital mixer I've ever used. The pres rock, I can automate anything, and minus a little interconnectivity problems with Nuendo, I can do most anything with it.

If you have any questions about it (the xd is almost the same as the standard 328), feel free to ask

Thanks guys, sorry bout the lack of any reply, just got the comp running again. Ive taken a look at the TASCAM and it truly is a nice piece of kit, though the 328XD does still offer alot of what i both need and want. Still got a couple of weeks to torment myself over the spending of my hard earnt cash.
Thanks again for the response.

The main limitation is that it's only good for 48K sampling rate. When it was designed, that was ample, but with DVDs and whatnot coming along it'll be more important. I looked at one to replace my aging Tascam TM-D1000, but I couldn't justify the expense without being able to go to 96K in the future if needed.

I hear ya, when making an investment on something which, to me atleast, will make a serious dent in my budget, it would be nice to know you have something not destined to become second rate technology too quickly.

The biggest problem is the size of the market of digital mixers/controllers for the kinda money im talking ($3000 ish), it tends to lead you down to a tiny selection and all with something that isnt quite up to scratch.

The TASCAM is definitely a possibility but I have heard some early concerns over the flimsyness of the touch sensitive automated faders and the last thing I want to be thinking about before buying something is returning it because of faults!

Interconnectivity problems with Soundcraft Spirit 328

Farel (Ben), do you have problems interconnectivity problems with your 328 and Cubase (possibly Nuendo 3)? What version of Cubase you're using?

Thanks,
Bob
