Not sure if this is the right forum. but...

What if I write songs to amuse myself and friends and anyone else who wants to download them and burn them. However, I don't want someone else stealing them. I really don't want to burn a lot of money on copyrights.

Anywhere on the Internet that I can register them to prove some sort of ownership of songs?

So what's the point of a copyright then?

It takes a bit of wading but

the U.S. Copyrights Office will explain what they do and how it protects you. The best article that I have seen in recent years was in Electronic Musician in January of 2007.Entitled "Copyrights and Wrongs" , I show it to every songwriter/client who comes in the studio here.

I also agree with cellopudding that the liklihood of having anyone find and steal your music is very slim. There is SO much content out there right now that even the people who are actively trying to have their material 'stolen' have a difficult time getting recognised. It make a great story, but just doesn't happen all that often to people who are writing for their own amazement and amusement.

Best of luck with your music.

to get big in the music industry you have to expose your self a lot. to get someone to steal it and become huge you would have to create a lot of buzz.

unless your relatives are famous and money grabbing thieves, i wouldn't get too worried about it.

Oh okay Thanks.

Cool. I'm just into for self entertainment and to make friends and others laugh. That's it.
